As I write, the team is chillin’ in the church. We’re all tired, but are also excited as we’ve seen God working over these past two days in unexpected yet amazing ways.
Yesterday the team took a trip to Yellowknife, we were excited to visit a Walmart, eat McDonalds, go to the Museum and see/walk on Great Slave Lake. Once we made our way back to the church we quickly set up for Cafe and Alpha and were ready for kids to come. As a few members of the team got ready to pick up some kids from the Sportsplex, the keys for the van were no where to be found. After many double checks of every space we could find, and many prayers, we still could not find the van keys.
With no way to pick up kids from the Sportsplex, we waited to see who would choose to come on their own. It was a quieter night, but it was evident that God was working. The kids who came were invested and, for the most part, fully participated in the two video sessions we decided to go through. They were focused and totally into the night, which was a change from some of the other nights that have felt a little chaotic with some kids distracting the ones who seem to want to focus. As we went through the videos, the first on Prayer and the second on the Bible - I felt a peace that even though we hadn’t found the keys yet, it would work out and God had a great plan. Leaning into Him in the small things.
As the night went on many youth stayed to hang out and watch a movie once Alpha was over. This is a neat time to give them a safe place to hang out a little bit later, a place to be them.
You might be wondering what happened with the keys… and yes, we found them! God is good. We were able to get into the van (thanks to there being AMA coverage in the Northwest Territories) and the keys were tucked down in one of the two places we couldn’t see by looking in the windows. The team was able to see God answering prayers, and also the kids that came were able to see that our prayers were answered and that God even cares about lost keys.
This trip has been one of seeing God work in unexpected ways, and being reminded that He is faithful and He loves every broken, lost youth that walks into the doors of this building, and even those walking outside or knocking on our door at 3 am. We pray that the youth we meet would leave these doors constantly reminded that they are loved, by us and by God.
We’re ready to have a team debrief and get some well needed sleep, so for now this is goodnight. Thank you for your prayers. Tonight prayers for deep rest and protection over the church and the house where the rest of the team are staying are much appreciated.
- Cole, Braydon, Alex, Candis, Tyler, Will, Sydney, Ben, and Jessica… Goodnight. See you soon.
